Tiger Maple Slant-Front Desk

Tiger maple slant-front desk. The desk sports a dovetailed case construction and a slant-lid front that opens to an attractive interior with cubbies and drawers. Below are four graduated drawers fitted with period hardware on an applied bracket base. The desk is in very good condition with exceptionally strong tiger striping brought out by an old refinish. The hinges on the lid have been reset but the lid is original. There are a few drawer lip repairs, a small stain on the top and minor restoration to the base.  18th century, New England.

Portrait of a child with an apple, o/c, attributed to Susan Waters, (1823-1900). The painting is a full-length depiction of a rosy-cheeked girl with blond hair parted in the center, wearing a green necklace and a printed rose-colored sheer dress with white lining, pantaloons and slippers. The girl is holding an apple in her right hand and grasping the gold tassels of a flanking red drapery in her left hand. She is standing on an ingrain carpet. The painting is in very good condition and is housed in an excellent period, possibly original molded gilt-wood frame.
