Folk art portrait of an elderly woman, oil on a wooden panel, illegible signature on back. The woman sits on a paint decorated Federal chair, holding an open book in her hand. Behind her is red drapery and a window that looks out on a river with a sailboat and with a forest and mountains in the far background. The portrait is in very good condition. The panel is flat and the painting itself is marred only by a small scratch on the woman’s lower arm and on the book cover. The portrait is presented in a beautiful period frame. An endearing portrait of two siblings, o/c laid down on Masonite, unsigned. The infant girl is wearing a blue dress and is holding a flower. Her coral necklace is worn to protect her from illness. The boy is dressed in a black top and white pants and is seated on a hobby horse with his arm around his sister. The portrait is in very good condition, with craquelure and scattered in-painting. There is a Christie's stamp on the back of the frame. Circa 1830-1840, American School.

The chest sports exceptional original hand-forged strap hinges and the original grab lock. It is in good condition, with stains on the lid, a patch to the lid at the lock, patches to the back and the bottom, and a small mouse hole on the lid of the till. The feet have been replaced.
