Folk art landscape painting, “American Harvesting”, after Jasper Cropsey, o/c, unsigned. Cropsey was an important landscape artist of the Hudson River School. In 1851, his painting of “American Harvesting”, now in the collection of the Indiana University Art Museum, was widely acclaimed, and was soon copied as a lithograph by Currier and Ives and also painted by several other artists of the Hudson River School. This is one of those paintings. It depicts men haying, along with a farmhouse and the Hudson River in the background. It is in very good condition, professionally cleaned and restored, with craquelure. Mid-19th century, American.
