Country store lamp with original nickel finish and a large (18”) nickel shade.

The lamp has its original smoke bell and sports an attractive engraved band circling the reservoir. The burner is labeled “Abco Rochester”. The lamp dates from the late 19^th century and is in good condition, with a few small dents and in need of some polishing, as expected from years of use. It has been electrified, but that can easily be reversed, if desired.

Two gallon ovoid stoneware jug with a cobalt blue floral decoration.

There are also blue highlights around the neck and the handle. The jug is in good condition, marred only by a tight hairline radiating up on the back side and a tiny chip out of the top rim. This piece was most probably made by the Isaac V. Machett pottery in Cornwall on Hudson, NY, circa 1850.

One gallon ovoid stoneware advertising jug, 11" high.

The most appealing thing about this jug is the stamped inscription: "Sold by L. Paddock & Son, Cheaper Than The Cheapest, Watertown, Jefferson Co. [NY]". The jug is missing its handle, but the inscription nevertheless makes it a wonderful display item.

L. Paddock most likely refers to Loveland Paddock, who operated a general store in Watertown from 1816 to 1842 before becoming a banker. His only son, Edwin L. Paddock was born in 1824. The jug, therefore, probably dates from circa 1840.
