Four-gallon cobalt decorated stoneware crock. The crock has an unusual decoration of a bird with an insect in its mouth. It is stamped, “N. Clark, JR/ Athens, NY” along with the number “4”. The crock is in very good condition, with no cracks or chips. N. Clark Jr. was in business from 1843-1891.

Curiously, this 1.5 gallon crock is stamped with a “6”, which must refer to six quarts. Weston & Gregg were only in business for two years, (1869-1870). The crock is in very good condition, but with staining and an age line. Circa 1870, New York.
