William & Mary gateleg dining table, apple and cherry wood. This unusually large gateleg table sports a beautiful oval top made of apple wood, with original butterfly hinges and chestnut straps attached with rose-headed nails. Custom-forged iron straps were added to reinforce the table. The table is in very good condition, with only minor repairs. Dated by Peter Kenny, formerly of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as circa 1750, Manhasset, Long Island, NY.

Provenance: Possible descent from Elisha Paine, (1693-1775), and from then through various members of the Paine/Whitney families. Detailed provenance to purchaser.

Dimensions: 29” high x 57½” long x 19½” wide, (leaves down), 63¾” wide, (leaves up).
