Pair of folk art portraits of a husband and wife, o/c, signed “G.B. French”. The man is holding a pen and paper with musical notes, suggesting that he might have been a composer or perhaps a musician. The woman is wearing a black dress, with a high comb in her hair and a jeweled necklace. In the background are red draperies and stone columns. Both portraits are inscribed on the back in pencil, “G.B. French/Lynn Mass”. They are in good condition, never having been relined, with some areas of retouch. Circa 1830-1840, Massachusetts.
