Pair of Pennsylvania Fracturs

260261J

A pair of Pennsylvania German fracturs. These fracturs, (more accurately known as taufscheins), record the birth and baptism of Hanna Schaafftall in Dauphin County, PA in 1806, and subsequently the birth and baptism of her son Peter in the same township in 1831. Both fracturs are beautifully hand-colored and decorated with a text panel flanked by angels, with a trumpeting angel above and an American eagle below. Below that are two distelfinks, symbolizing happiness, good fortune and long life. The fracturs are framed under glass in period gold leaf frames and are in good condition, with some staining and creasing.
