A truly exceptional miniature lift-top blanket chest with one drawer.
The chest is constructed of pine and has its original paint decoration on three sides and the lid, with a very appealing old, untouched surface. It sits on a bracket base with attractive cutouts on the sides. The chest is constructed with early nails and has its original hardware. The lid has a molded edge and is attached by a single hinge in the center. The initials "H.E." are grooved into the paint on the back of the chest.
The chest has been in a private collection for the past 15 years. It was exhibited at the Centennial Exhibition in Bristol, CT in 1885 and still retains the original exhibition slip. The chest dates from circa 1780-1810 and was probably made in Western CT.
