An exceptional Windsor settee. The settee sports bamboo turnings and a three-section back, each section having an oblong cartouche centered in the crest of a birdcage design. The settee has 27 spindles plus the stiles, turned armrests supported by three spindles each, a plank seat with a shaped dip and rounded corners, and an eight-legged base with “H” stretchers. It sports a brown stain finish and is in good condition with some repairs. Circa 1800-1820, Pennsylvania. See “American Windsor Chairs”, pages 136-137, by Nancy Evans.
