Folk art barber pole, 87” high. The pole has an unusual tapered square form topped with a diamond-shaped finial. It is painted with red and blue stripes on a cream ground and is mounted on a round wooden base. The paint is old, with a nice, dry surface, but is possibly second paint. The barber pole is in good condition, with some flaking, wear and discoloration of the paint, some separation at the joints and a small scar on one side from a previous brace, now removed. The base is modern. An unusual collector's item! Late 19th or early 20th century, American.
