Portrait of three children with dog and puppy, o/c, signed, “A Fisher, 1845 (?)”. The portrait is in very good condition, having been professionally conserved and relined with very minor inpainting.
Alvan Fisher, (1792-1863), was a MA artist who was a pioneer in American landscape, genre, and animal painting. He was one of the earliest Americans to rebel against painting only portraits, and was the first American artist to paint race horses. His records show that he sold nearly 1000 paintings between 1826 and 1863.
