Painted Windsor bench. The bench has a shaped crest rail over a horizontal splat joined to the seat by twelve turned spindles and three larger stiles. It also sports down swept curved armrests and eight ring-turned legs joined by step-down stretchers. The overall deep brown painted finish is enhanced by a polychrome floral decorated crest, gold stringing and freehand scroll work on the seat along with a wide green band and a green panel on the legs. The bench is in very good condition, exhibiting only the wear consistent with age and usage and possibly some retouching of the paint. Early 19th century, Pennsylvania.
