Folk art winter scene, o/c, unsigned. The painting depicts people ice skating, along with buildings, a windmill, etc. It is in very good condition, having been professionally conserved, unlined, with only minor inpainting.
The painting is attributed to Joseph Hidley, (1830-1872). A letter of attribution accompanies the painting. Hidley painted in the Hudson Valley region of New York State and is famous for his townscapes of Poestenkill, NY. His paintings can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Smithsonian, Winterthur, and other well-known museums.
