A wonderful folk art Stumpf fiddle. The Stumpf fiddle is a hobo-esque percussive instrument consisting of a stick, bells, various pans and the like, held together with nuts and bolts and played with a drumstick. This particular Stumpf fiddle goes one step further, sporting a wonderful carved and painted man’s head and hat, above which are cymbals and bells, transforming it into a unique, one of a kind, piece of folk art. The metal stand is new. Late 19th or early 20th century.
