Chippendale lift-top blanket chest, cherry. The chest sports three false drawers over three real drawers, a molded edge top and an attractive bracket base. Originally, it did not have brasses, which gave it a very architectural look. Drawer pulls were evidently attached later to the three real drawers using nails or screws. (The holes don't go all the way through the drawer fronts.) These pulls were subsequently removed and the chest restored to its original look. The chest is in excellent condition with no repairs or replacements, except for the hinges and the filled holes on the three real drawers. Circa 1780-1790, New England.
