Sailor’s chest in original blue paint, with hand-forged iron handles and hinges.
The chest is decorated with a beautiful folk art painting of a sailing ship on the front panel and a compass with the initials “EB” on the lid. These decorations are likely not original, (probably done in the early 20thcentury), but are exceptionally well done. The chest dates from the first half of the 19th century and was probably made in New England.
