Early paint decorated Mohawk Valley blanket chest.
The chest is paint decorated with a heart motif and two lozenges, which is typical of Mohawk Valley Dutch decorations. The chest features dovetailed construction, hand-forged iron strap hinges and heart-shaped handles. (The handles have been replaced but are of the period.) The base molding and part of the molding around the lid have been restored. 18thCentury, New York State origin.
