Fan Back Windsor side chair, stamped "Henzey".
This chair has beautiful proportions, an excellent saddle seat, nicely carved ears and nice turnings on the legs and medial stretcher, It is painted with 19thCentury green paint with a stencil decoration and gold banding over the original 18thCentury green paint. There is a minor repair to the seat, and the feet have been ended out.
The chair is stamped “Henzey” underneath the seat. Joseph Henzey was recognized as one of the best Windsor chair makers of his day. His work was unique and his craftsmanship was a signature of the Philadelphia Windsor style.
