Early adjustable tripod candle holder or candlestand.
The double-ended wooden paddle was made to hold two tin candle holders, (now missing), and can be adjusted vertically along a central shaft. The upper tray can be moved along the same shaft, which then continues downward to a round hub attached to a second beautifully turned tray. The candle holder is supported by three legs with bamboo turnings. It retains some of its original paint and has a nice old patina. Late 18th or early 19th century, New England.
